Waitangi Day and Brighton

Sup cats,

The other weekend was Waitangi Day, a national holiday back home where we all get a day off work. In London however, it’s been transformed into New Zealand Day, a day where Kiwis get their colours on and storm the streets of Londontown drunk as all hell. We imported teeshirts from home with the words FUSH AND CHUPS CHOICE BRO on the front. Teeshirts weren’t quite the best choice, considering we were braving a -2 with a high of 0 that day.

It was the usual drunken madness. What was surprising though is the amount of Kiwis in London. This is Westminister Square, where everyone gathered to see the haka, that no one saw, because there were too many people.

Last weekend we endured a huge journey to Brighton for a Medics fund raising thingy. They were all off to Paris on the ferry, Marcelo and I just went along to see Brighton. It’s a cute seaside town that I’ve actually been to before when I was about 13. There were a few Whoa, De Ja Vu moments. We went out on the pier, went to the local fish and chips shop where an excitable Fish-man was ecstatic that a friend was paying a bit of attention to him. We went to the local pub then onwards to the club where the night was meant to start and end.

The place had £1 drinks, so we were fine on that side of things. There was also an old 70+ year old dressed similar to Michael Jackson cranking it up on the dancefloor who was soon joined by a Buzz Lightyear and Woody. That part was sorta weird. Our bus home was at 5.30am and it was one of those never-ending missions to get home, which included us crashing a local hotel lobby where they gave us free coffee.
