So while planning for our big England trip, Georgie purchased a Lonely Planet guide to London. “The pubs all shut at 11pm” she told me. “The clubs all open up at 12.”
“The hell? What the hell is the point in that?” I am not impressed with this idea.
“Well, apparently they made the curfew during World War 1, so no one would be too hungover the next day”.
This is most retarded, out dated, thing EVAH. I can just imagine us over there drinking, having a good time, then at closing time, pulling out the “Well, where I come from, we can drink all night! The pubs don’t shut till 3 or 4am! What is this nonsense? I am not moving.”

However, I suspect we could be wrong on this. I mean really, pubs shutting at 11pm? On a Saturday? That can’t be right.

I have a friend originally from New York, who came over to New Zealand when she was around 8 or 9, I think. I remember her telling us about how her school did a study on New Zealand just before she was going to leave. Except they did a study on Early New Zealand culture. She thought she was coming over to live in a mud hut and wear grass skirts and was going to eat people. Hilarious.

Peoples misconceptions about our country are usually pretty funny. My mum got congratulated on her good English while she was in the States. While I was in Vegas, I got chatting to some musician. He asked where I was from and on hearing “New Zealand”, he immediately asked me if I knew his friend Shannon.

When I tried to explain that we actually have a population greater than 15 people and no, I don’t know Shannon, he looked at me like I was making fun of him. He looked really offended come to think of it.

Next time I get asked a dumb question I might just play along with it.
