Death by Credit Card

11 Dec 2007

I made a small noise that sounded like a horse dying and smacked my head on my desk.
“How much did you spend on the Victorias Secret site” Nat casually asks over our desk partition.
“Euuuuurggggggghhhhhh” I moaned.

Holy crap shit, I did not think that through. I saw the bikinis. I like what I saw. I purchased. Then I saw the bras – then I got gotted by the pop up window at the checkout, “3 things for $35!” Zara came over to comfort me. “It’s ok”, she told me, “I spent more. Those damn pop up windows and the ‘Other things you might like!’ pictures got me too”. Their products look amazing, and they truly are, except they don’t look as awesome on you. Especially when you need to go to the gym more and are whitey white-white even though it’s been summer for a good month now.
The thing about purchasing off an American site, is that there’s a whole lot of surprise charges that you don’t foresee coming. Like the $50 freight. Now that’s $50USD which is roughly $65NZD. Damn living at the end of the world with crappy, crappy exchange rates. Also, there’s the surprise tax the Americans love so much. This tripped me up while I was visiting the States as well. “See this sandwich! Its $5. But really, it’s not, because we haven’t included tax in that price. Also, you need to tip your waitress 10% for bringing you that sandwich”.

On top of my Victoria’s Secret purchases, I actually went shopping for the first time in months, in the weekend. I didn’t own any dresses. I do now. My bank balance. It cries. Oh, and throw on top my rager of a weekend in town. Why is alcohol so expensive? Why don’t I just drink cheap wine instead of cocktails or spirits?

Everyone is getting presents from the $2 Shop this Christmas.

Hmm. If anyone would like to join me in starting up a Victoria’s Secret chain in New Zealand, please let me know. I have this great business plan. It involves you doing all the paper work and I get a cut of the profits. Cuz it was my idea.
